This historic Fairmount kitchen remodel began with a full design package, giving the homeowner 3D renderings and floor plans to find a layout that works best for them.

This homeowner wanted a kitchen that felt true to the era her home was built in, and she gravitated toward the warmth and natural textures of Arts & Crafts style. She’d already restored the original hardwood floors throughout the house, so we made sure to keep those front and center in the new design.

We installed custom stained cabinets with inset doors and drawers, finished in a rich golden stain that plays beautifully off the hardwoods. The upper cabinets feature a beadboard accent, topped with a row of glass display cabinets near the ceiling. For countertops, we chose leathered granite, and paired it with a stone-look backsplash that gives her the look of slate without any of the upkeep. A tile accent square above the range adds a little extra visual interest.

While the overall layout stayed the same, we relocated the sink and refrigerator and built a new row of cabinetry to house the microwave, making the whole kitchen more functional. Antique pewter cabinet pulls tie the whole look together.

Now this Fairmount kitchen works so much better for our client day-to-day, and it finally feels like it belongs in the historic home it’s part of.
